Cinema Memories

This section explores the power of geo-visualization for capturing the emotional aspect of cinema-going. This mapping technique, used in our project both to interrogate the Italian exhibition sector as well as to map film distribution, is used here to illustrate the affective and emotional dimensions of cartographic practices related to memory.

In the map you will find all the cinemas attended by Teresa Gervasi Rabitti, a cinema-goer who lived in Rome in the 1950s. Each coloured dot represents a cinema. If you click on the dot you will get further information on that cinema as well as some of Teresa’s memories. Please note that the data found in the map has not been edited deliberately, in order to reflect Teresa’s written account. The map will open in a new browser tab. This map has been created using Prospect.
